What We DoChild Advocacy Centers: A Safe Place for Healing

When there are concerns that a child may have been abused or is at risk, law enforcement or the Department of Human Services may refer them to a Child Advocacy Center (CAC). These centers offer a safe, child-friendly environment designed to make children feel comfortable and empowered to share their experiences.

Once a referral has been made, we coordinate with law enforcement, child protection workers, medical, behavioral health professionals and prosecutors to provide the following services all within a single child-friendly facility.

What To Expect

Often, the first contact a family has with TreeTop is with one of our Advocates, who work with families and professionals in the community to gather relevant information to ensure a thorough child abuse assessment. TreeTop Advocates can explain every step of the investigative process and answer questions, so that children and families know what to expect when they walk through our doors.

During The Interview

At the CAC, a specially trained forensic interviewer speaks with the child in a conversation focused on listening, not interrogation. While the interview takes place, a team of professionals — medical providers, law enforcement, child protective services, mental health professionals, and victim advocates — observe from another room.

Our private waiting room is designed to be comfortable and welcoming – a space where families can be together, and where children can relax while they read, watch movies, play or draw while awaiting their appointment. Our goal is to help you and your family feel as comfortable as possible throughout your visit.
